Storing enough food for an emergency can seem like a daunting task, but like most things, the hardest part is getting started. Few people can buy a 3 month supply of food in one stop, but everyone can buy a little at a time, until eventually, they have enough to last through even the longest emergencies. The key is to build a foundation, and then increase your supply over time, because each stage of preparedness builds upon the previous stage.

The chart below will help you get started; first, ensure that you have enough food to last for 72 hours, then work your way up to greater preparedness and self-reliance.
